Despite the fact he signed a bumper five year contract extension in the summer, Manchester United are willing to offload Portuguese winger Nani in the summer, reports the Independent.
The 27-year-old penned the £95,000 per week deal before the beginning of the season, but mainly due to injuries, he’s failed to have any impact on David Moyes’ first-team plans whatsoever.
All season in fact, he’s only made five starts, and he’s failed to register a single goal or assist in any of his appearances. Injuries similarly blighted the previous season as well, where Nani only made 11 top flight appearances.
As a result, the Red Devils are happy to let the 72 cap Portuguese wide man leave Old Trafford.
His Italian agent Andrea Pastorello has confirmed the fact that his client will be leaving English shores, indicating that the player may favour a move to Italy.
“Nani is a very important player and at this time the only thing I can say is that he is likely to leave Manchester,” Pastorello told Violanews.com.
“The problem for Fiorentina and other Italian clubs is the player’s salary, but he will evaluate all bids.
“Our relationship with United is great. Fiorentina have to speak with Manchester United about Anderson and maybe there will be an opportunity to talk about Nani, too.”
Since arriving at Old Trafford for a very large fee back in 2007, Nani has largely failed to live up to his unbelievable promise. He’s won four Premier League titles though, making 225 appearances in total, but has never been regarded as the world-class attacker he once threatened to be.
