Man United will veteran trio Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand leave the club when their contract expire in the summer and have already made exploratory moves for relevant replacements.

To this end Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels is one target the Premier League side want to bring in whilst they are also pursuing Southampton teenager Luke Shaw, though they are said to be reticent about meeting the 18 year old’s reported £30m price-tag.

Though David Moyes recently recalled Nani to the first team set-up Man United will hope to garner a decent fee for the Portuguese international who is not seen as part of the club’s long term plans and Woodward hopes that interest from Juventus results in an official bid from the Serie A side.

Tom Cleverley is also set for a summer exit with Louis van Gaal having identified as many as three potential central midfield additions leaving the England international out in the cold.

Van Gaal will look to continue Man United’s long term push to bring in Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos and is also interested in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
