The Netherlands national team coach was officially announced as the new boss of the Red Devils on Monday afternoon, however, Van Gaal will not actually start work in the north west until after this summer’s Fifa World Cup finals come to an end in July.

But the experienced former Ajax, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss is understood to have already begun work assessing just which players he would like the club to go after when the summer transfer window reopens.

And one of those targets is believed to be Feyenoord’s Netherlands international, who really caught the eye for his country in Saturday’s World Cup warmup aganinst Ecuador in which he set up United striker Robin van Persie’s equalising goal.

“That pass made the goal possible. That was a world-class ball. That pass gave me the opportunity to do my thing. I think that pass was more beautiful than my goal,” said RVP after the match.

“The only thing I had to do was control the ball and score. That pass from Clasie was world class.”
