Old Trafford side look to secure left-back deal to start busy summer of transfer activity.
Man United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to start a massive spending spree that could see the Dutchman use up a £200m transfer war-chest before the summer window slams shut.
The Manchester Evening News claims a deal to sign long term target Luke Shaw is in the offing with the two clubs discussing an asking price for the 18 year old left-back.
The Old Trafford side will look to complete the move for the Southampton star before the World Cup gets underway and then chief executive Ed Woodward will push on with efforts to bring in a host of talents who would ideally be in place by the time van Gaal completes his work with the Dutch national team.
Woodward came in for a lot of criticism over Man United’s ‘shambolic’ transfer plotting last summer, when after losing out on the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Leighton Baines and Thiago Alcantara the club had to settle for an overpriced capture of Marouane Fellaini on deadline day, a move that has clearly not panned out as the Premier League side would have hoped.
Among Man United’s targets are Bayern Munich midfielder, Dutchmen Kevin Strootman, Jordy Clasie and Bruno Martins Indi whilst Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels is seen as an ideal replacement for Nemanja Vidic.
