United boss admits admiration for Chilean star.
Check in to Chile vs Australia
Manchester United and Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has sung the praises of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, and admits trying to buy him in the past, the Daily Mail reports.
Vidal, 27, has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A over the last few years, helping his side to three title wins in a row in the Italian top flight, and will now come up against van Gaal’s Netherlands side in Group B at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
With the newly-appointed United boss still focusing on duties with his national team at this summer’s tournament, he has singled out Vidal as one of Chile’s most dangerous players, but has also dropped a hint that he could be a target of his in the coming months when it comes to strengthening his squad at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been linked with the Juve man several times in recent months as they eye new signings in midfield, and van Gaal’s admiration for the player and previous efforts to sign him whilst he was manager of Bayern Munich suggest that he could be in his plans again in this year’s transfer window.
“Chile have very dangerous players,” he said.
“I always wanted to buy Vidal when he was at Bayer Leverkusen but he went to Juventus.
“I like a lot of Chile players and they always play an attacking style.”
