Old Trafford man to make Stamford Bridge switch.
Check in to Costa Rica vs England
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been given the all-clear by Blues owner Roman Abramovich to make a stunning bid for Man United forward Wayne Rooney.
CaughtOffside understands that the Stamford Bridge side have been given encouragement from the England international’s representatives that such a move may well be one the 28 year old is keen to make this summer.

Mourinho is known to be an admirer of the Man United man and Chelsea have failed in previous bids for his services though Abramovich is now ready to make a club record offer for Rooney, one that he feels will more than pay for itself in relation to the marketability of the star performer.
Rooney has been told that he will not be named as the club’s new captain, with the job likely to go to Dutchman Robin Van Persie, and this may further fuel the former Everton forward’s desire to consider a fresh challenge.
Incoming boss Louis van Gaal has his sights set on new attacking additions and could be willing to sell Rooney and Chelsea’s upcoming offer of £55m is one that chief executive Ed Woodward is minded to accept, not least as the sale would not only generate funds for future additions but would see the player’s reported £300k wages wiped off the balance sheet.
Rooney was strongly linked with a Man United exit last summer, with fears that his relationship with former manager David Moyes was not the greatest, but the long serving player responded by putting in a consistent run of form over the course of last season, finishing the campaign as the club’s leading assist-maker and top goal-scorer.
Having signed a new deal in February, one that ties Rooney to Man United until 2019, Chelsea know that his value will have soared and are therefore open to spending such a large sum on acquiring him.
Mourinho is convinced that Wayne Rooney is set to enter the peak of his career and will look to build his attack around the Man United man, who he will look to play behind incoming striker Diego Costa.
