Cleverley’s Old Trafford future under threat after the signing of Herrera.
Check in to Germany vs Algeria
Merseyside club Everton are hoping to sign up 24-year old Man United central midfielder Tom Cleverley, who could be deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by new boss Louis van Gaal, according to the Metro.
Van Gaal is currently busy with the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, but reports suggest that Cleverley, whose insipid performances last season attracted plenty of criticism, could well be shown the door at the club.
Toffess boss Roberto Martinez though is fan of Cleverley, and thinks that the midfielder could be a good long-term replacement for ageing star Leon Osman.
Meanwhile, United’s £28 million signing of Spanish ace midfielder Ander Herrera has sent a clear message to several of the Red Devils’ old guard that their places could well be under threat, and Cleverley is among those who could sold to recoup some of the transfer spend.
There could be a few other suitors also surfacing for the young England international though, which would not make it easy for Everton to land him this summer.
