Old Trafford side make ‘final’ offer for Borussia Dortmund star.
Man United are set to step-up their pursuit of German international Mats Hummels with the Old Trafford side set to make a final offer for the centre-back according to the Metro.
Louis van Gaal will have to repair a back-line that has seen veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic bid an emotional farewell and it makes good sense to target 25 year old Hummels, however the reported ‘last offer’ of £20m is likely to get short shrift from the Westfalenstadion side.

Jurgen Klopp would be loathed to lose another of his star performers, with Robert Lewandowski having followed Mario Gotze to domestic rivals Bayern Munich, and frankly £20m just isn’t a tempting offer for a player of Hummels obvious quality.
Man United have apparently attempted to sign Hummels in each of the last three transfer windows but if £20m is their top offer then it’s no surprise that previous bids failed.
Should a move for Hummels fail then van Gaal will turn to Feyenoord youngster Stefan de Vrij and Arsenal back-up defender Thomas Vermaelen, both of whom would certainly cost less than Hummels but arguably don’t come near to matching the German for quality.
