Ashley Young mocks Jones for borrowing Tony Strudwick’s cash… SEE MORE: Top 10 most expensive players of all time
Manchester United enjoyed a superb pre-season tour of America, winning all five of their matches under new boss Louis van Gaal, which culminated in a 3-1 win over Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup on Monday evening.
The team spirit is clearly flowing, too, with fitness coach Tony Strudwick taking to Twitter to tease Phil Jones (who’s on £50k-per-week) for forgetting his wallet on a shopping trip, the Daily Mail reported.
“Had a good afternoon shopping with @PhilJones4. Paid his cab fares either way and bought him a Starbucks coffee. Shock he had no cash!” said Strudwick, before winger Ashley Young joined in on the action.
“No shock there with @PhilJones4 haha!” he tweeted.
The fitness specialist then replied to Young, claiming that Jones had: “Gave it the “My card doesn’t work abroad shout”!”
The tweets have since been deleted!
Jones is likely to play an integral part this season, with the new manager seemingly favouring a 3-5-2 formation. This means three centre-backs will be deployed, with the 22-year-old England international capable of playing the pivotal central position, with Chris Smalling on the right, and Jonny Evans potentially on the left.
United have also been heavily linked with Thomas Vermaelen, although it appears that Arsenal will refuse to sell their club captain to a Premier League rival.
