Hull City are readying a club record breaking bid for Man United striker Danny Welbeck according to the Daily Mirror.

The 23 year old has been told by new Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal that he will play a limited role in his first team set-up and as such may be tempted by a fresh challenge.

Tigers boss Steve Bruce hopes to bank £12m from the sale of Shane Long to Southampton and will then make a move for £14m rated England international Welbeck.

The powerful forward, who can play out wide or in a central berth, had a solid campaign last term during which he racked up nine goals from 25 Premier League starts, of which only 15 were starts.

Welbeck was then called up by Roy Hodgson for the 2014 World Cup finals and may feel that his career could stagnate on the Man United bench and there are sure to be no shortage of interest in his services.

Hull City certainly struggled for goals last term with Bruce’s side managing only 38 Premier League goals with January signings Long and Nikica Jelavic being joint top scorers with just four goals to their name.

Welbeck has scored 29 goals in 139 appearances for Man United.
