Manchester United have been dealt a significant blow in the transfer market, report the Express, with Chilean international midfielder Arturo Vidal reportedly having confirmed that his short term future lies with Juventus.
United have seemingly spent much of the summer competing for the signature of midfielder Vidal, who has risen to prominence as one of Europe’s finest central midfielders thanks to his role in Juventus’ three successive Serie A title victories.
With Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward now having secure an alternative marquee signing, with winger Angel di Maria having joined for a British record fee from Real Madrid, a move for Vidal had looked less likely – although some reports had suggested that United retained their interest in securing Vidal as well as di Maria.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man has seemingly poured cold water on any hope still flickering about a possible move to Old Trafford, having reportedly said:
“At this point I do not go away, I stay at Juventus.”
The news will come as a boost to Juventus fans, although it is expected that Vidal may take some time to get up to speed during the news Serie A season, having had an operation on a knee injury this summer – something that was reportedly putting off United manager van Gaal.
