Sir Bobby Charlton believes Van Gaal will bring the glory days back to the Theatre of Dreams.
Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has backed Louis van Gaal to succeed despite a poor start to his reign at Old Trafford, Goal.com reports.
The Red Devils only managed to finish seventh last season which meant they missed out on European football completely.
However, Charlton reckons the lack of European football at Old Trafford this season will benefit the three time European Cup winners and will actually help van Gaal turn around their fortunes.
”It seems strange that Manchester United aren’t involved in European football for a season,” Charlton told the Daily Mail.
“It’s crazy but maybe it can make things easier for us.
”We’ve started with some new players, we’ve not been playing well but we will play well. I think that it’s going to be a great adventure of how we pull ourselves back round and get back to the way it used to be.”
Following United’s poor showing last season, the club have embarked on a massive spending spree that has seen the likes of Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Radamel Falcao arrive at the Theatre of Dreams.
This has undoubtedly made van Gaal’s squad stronger and the Dutchman will almost certainly unleash his new attacking talent in United’s next game against QPR on Sunday.
