The Dutch star was in prolific form at this summer’s World Cup, scoring four goals as the side he captained finished third in the tournament.

The striker is already targeting a place in the Netherlands squad for the next World Cup, which will be held in Russia. Although he will be 35 in 2018, Van Persie is still determined to be part of another Netherlands World Cup squad.

”I will be 35 then and I will do everything to be there,” Van Persie said.

”I live quietly, this saves a few years. My goal is to play at the highest level for as long as possible and being available for the national team is a part of that.”

The Netherlands captain has had his fair share of injuries during his career. Most recently, the 31 year old spent a portion of last season on the treatment table however, the striker is convinced that he can stay fit and play professionally until he’s 40.

”I am 31 now and I have a little less than nine years to go. I won’t be playing for a major club at the age of 40, although I do still want to be playing professional football at that age. That’s my goal.”
