Upton Park centre-back on Old Trafford radar.
Man United are reportedly keen on West Ham centre-back Winston Reid according to the Daily Mail.
Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal could certainly do with strengthening his defensive options and the Dutch manager may well feel he can land the 26 year old Hammers man ‘on the cheap’ as he is into the final year of his Upton Park contract.
Reid has been in fine form over the past year though one wonders if the West Ham tough tackler would represent a significant, if any, improvement on those already in van Gaal’s squad.
Phil Jones is struggling with injuries whilst Jonny Evans has not impressed at all this term.
Youngster Tyler Blackett has been flung in at the deep end but has the potential to be a first team regular whilst debutant Paddy McNair was excellent against West Ham on the weekend.
Given that Man United have spent massive sums on players plying their trade in the final third van Gaal would do well to invest similarly large sums in his defence and to that end there will be few better qualified options to pursue that Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, who has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League club.
