The 16-year-old has impressed whilst on trial at United’s Carrington training ground last week and the club are now believed to be keen on seeing more of him.

And with Poole apparently attracting a number of potential suitors, including Championship outfit Fulham, Newport manager Justin Edinburgh hopes his side can help nurture the youngster into a top player.

“There will be a lot of interest in a player of his quality,” the County manager said.

“We have to manage him right. I hope to keep him for the near future.”

Poole was a member of the Cardiff City academy and joined the Newport County Academy as a scholar in June this year.

He made his league debut for Newport in the goalless draw with Shrewsbury Town in September.
