The Daily Express claim that the Serie A title holders are ready to ‘ditch’ Chilean Arturo Vidal and will accept Juan Mata in a straight swap deal.
Van Gaal has been linked with an interest in Vidal for some months and the chance to land the South American in this manner is one that would appear to suit the Dutch boss.
Vidal has fallen out with Juventus after he was fined £80k for arriving late for training having spent the night before at a nightclub and is now seemingly a player set for an imminent exit.
The Bianconeri are also willing to make a direct swap for Vidal and have a list of potential players that they would be interested in exchanging for the former Bayer Leverkusen man and as well as Juan Mata the Turin side are eyeing up Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti.
Man United paid £37m for Mata in January and whilst he hasn’t been a bad signing it would be fair to say he hasn’t consistently delivered the goods and the arrival of Angel di Maria has certainly impacted on his chances at the club.
