If the Reds do decide to sell, they will need to have a replacement ready to go. If Brendan Rodgers’ side are able to maintain their Champions League status through to the start of next year, they will have plenty of players open to a move to Anfield, but which one of these ten candidates might they choose?

10) Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbahce)

The 27-year-old has been a regular scorer for the Nigerian national team, while he also netted 12 times for his club side last season, along with making nine assists.

9) Seydou Doumbia (CSKA Moscow)

A prolific scorer for his club side, for whom he has netted 60 goals in 90 league games. A former Ivorian international, who retired after failing to make his side’s World Cup squad.

8) Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke)

A prolific Dutch striker who is available on the cheap with his contract set to expire next summer. A former Real Madrid and AC Milan striker who is highly experienced at the top level of club football.

7) Giuseppe Rossi (Fiorentina)

Italian forward who was linked with Liverpool in the summer, only for those links to then be categorically denied. The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent years, but has been prolific when fit.

6) Saido Berahino (West Bromwich Albion)

The top scoring English striker in the Premier League so far this season, scoring 8 goals in 11 games in all competitions. The 21-year-old is almost certainly a star of the future.

5) Jackson Martinez (Porto)

A star of Colombia’s World Cup success, although he was admittedly overshadowed by James Rodriguez. The Porto captain has scored 51 goals in 64 league games for his club, who he joined in 2012.

4) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

The 23-year-old Belgian has fallen out of focus due to the long-term injury that has kept him on the sidelines until recently. But if he can come back and prove himself at Villa, he could be a huge target in January.

3) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

The potential swap deal comes in the shape of the Argentine forward, who will be desperate to make a move to a club with Champions League football. It would however, be quite some deal for the Reds to pull off.

2) Wilfried Bony (Swansea City)

Both Liverpool and Tottenham showed an interest in the Swansea striker during the summer, but a move failed to materialise. After the target man’s strong start to the season, could the Reds return for him in January?

1) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

The 23-year-old Frenchman has been in exceptional form so far this season, netting eight goals in ten league games, taking his tally to 32 in 116 for Lyon, for whom he made his debut in 2009.
