The Red Devils may be willing to part company with £32m midfielder Ander Herrera, who has not quite made the desired impact since moving to Old Trafford from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao this season.

United have plenty of competition for places in midfield at the moment, with van Gaal also possibly eyeing up even more new signings in that part of the pitch for January, with AS Roma’s Kevin Strootman known to be one of the Dutchman’s priority transfer targets.

This could mean there is no longer any room for Herrera in his United squad, with the 25-year-old only managing five appearances for the team in the Premier League so far, with results not significantly improved from last season’s highly disappointing campaign.

It remains to be seen if any clubs are interested in the Spaniard at the moment, but it is claimed that United would accept offers in the region of £20-24m for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.

Juan Mata is another Spanish international looking likely to leave the club this winter.
