Germany star becomes latest target for big spending Van Gaal.
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal is said to be lining up a surprise £50m move for Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze when the summer transfer window opens for business next year, according to the Daily Star.
With Van Gaal set to undergo another spending spree at the helm of the Red Devils, he has targeted the World Cup winner as a top priority amongst others.
But the German playmaker is likely to cost United around £50m and will only be tempted if they qualify for the Champions League this term.
United are set to hand Van Gaal a humongous £200m war chest to go shopping with, and will come just a year after he spent £150m during his first month in charge.
Club bosses are hoping to revolutionise the club and want competition for places all across the pitch.
Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera all joined the Red Devils and Van Gaal wants a similar number next season.
