The west London side are keen to clinch a £25m deal to sign the Republic of Ireland international and given that the Toffees are having a very average season thus far it appears that such a deal could well be sealed in January.
The 26 year old may well have been open to remaining at Goodison Park if Roberto Martinez’s side were able to build from the successes of last term but with Everton languishing below mid-table the chances of retaining the wide-man will surely be slim.
Mourinho may feel that Coleman can offer him a long term replacement for 30 year old Serbian Branislav Ivanovic and perhaps offers more in the final third than the consistent Blues star.
Louis van Gaal certainly has a more pressing need for a right-back with the likes of Rafael and Luis Antonio Valencia struggling to convince the Dutch boss that either have what it takes to fill the role going forward.
Everton paid just £60k for Coleman back in 2009 and chairman Bill Kenwright would struggle to turn down an offer of £25m, especially if the player made it clear he wanted to make a high profile move.
