Reports in the Daily Express explain that former United and Southampton defender Danny Higginbotham says the Red Devils need midfield reinforcements, and Schneiderlin could fit the bill.

“There are a few players about, I think he [Schneiderlin] is one of them,” he told reporters. Schneiderlin has been in impressive form so far this season, helping the Saints hold down a place in the top four, ahead of both afore mentioned North London clubs.

“There will be a lot of teams around that are interested in signing him,” Higginbotham added. “And he may even look at today – no disrespect to Southampton – as an advert to put himself on show.

“Man Utd are still a little bit short in midfield and I’m sure that they’ll be looking to get new players in.”

Arsenal are still in the hunt for Schneiderlin, who looks likely to remain on the South Coast until the summer transfer window, although the source suggests that Tottenham appear to have turned their interest to Everton youngster James McCarthy.
