Depay’s manager believes the winger has a bright future…
PSV manager Phillip Cocu believes his flying winger Memphis Depay could be as good as Arjen Robben, admitting he is likely to lose the player in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old Netherlands international had been linked with a move to the Premier League over the summer, with teams such as Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United mentioned.
Depay instead stayed with PSV and has become a key figure in their Eredivisie title challenge this season, helping them go 12 points clear at the top, having won their last ten games.
Speaking to Russia’s Sport Express in the build up to the Dutch side’s Europa League game against Zenit St. Petersburg on Thursday, Cocu said, “They are different players, but they are both fast and have a good shot. And both always have the urge to learn.
“But Memphis is only 21-years-old and only in a few years can real conclusions be drawn.”
The performances of the PSV winger have attracted Europe’s top clubs and Cocu realises there is a chance his star player could leave come summer.
“That’s unfortunate, but on the other hand, we must as a club be proud because we have trained him. At some point, it becomes clear that he is ready for the next step. And yes, I think he’s going to leave PSV after this season.”
Depay has been in blistering form this season, scoring 18 goals in the 23 appearances he has made to the Dutch giants and could make the move to the Premier League in the near future, with many likely suitors.
