Louis van Gaal elected to bring in the 29 year old Colombian on a season long loan deal and it’s fair to say the former FC Porto and Atletico Madrid man has been a massive disappointment.

Falcao’s return of four goals in 16 appearances may well lead van Gaal to pass on any option to sign the South American on a permanent basis but his Ligue 1 manager doesn’t understand why they brought him in to begin with.

“In the last days of August I was thinking Falcao would leave — but I thought he’d go to another club.

“In England other teams wanted him. But I didn’t think United would be the ones taking him as they had Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

“Maybe they did not need him. It’s my opinion but not my decision to make.”

One has to wonder what the future holds for Falcao.

Will he return to the principality club? Will his endeavours at Man United negatively effect his chances of finding another ‘big’ club?
