The tough tackling Portuguese international helped his side to a runners-up finish in the Primeira Liga last term, before being named as part of Paulo Bento’s 2014 World Cup finals squad, and is now seemingly a player Louis van Gaal wants to bring to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal may well feel he could do with an out and out defensive midfielder with Dutchman Daley Blind being used in various roles since arriving at the club last summer.

Carvalho may well be tempted by a high-profile move and recent results have all but assured Man United of a return to Champions League action and this may well act as further motivation, should it be required, for the Sporting Lisbon man to push for a move to the Premier League giants.
