However, the 22-year-old has been offered a five year contract by the Serie A club, so the Red Devils will have a fight on their hands if they want to entice the youngster to Old Trafford. However, it may be worth the trouble. The forward has scored 11 goals in 33 appearances for Lazio this season, with six coming in six games during a run of great form during December and January.

Having already agreed the signing of Memphis Depay, Anderson could be part of a new look front line being created by Louis van Gaal. Angel Di Maria has been a disappointment this season, and Juan Mata has only done well in fits and starts to leave United looking toothless at times.

United supporters will be hoping that the Brazilian is better than the last player of his name to come from the country to play for the Red Devils. That Anderson only left the club this season after eight unsuccessful years at Old Trafford.
