Reports this week from German news outlet Kicker made the claim that, via a ‘reliable source from England’, Louis van Gaal was going to attempt to lure the Bayern Munich legend to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

Despite believing he will remain with the Bundesliga giants, Guardiola will leave the 30-year-old to make his own decision on where he wants to play next season.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the former Barca boss responded to the recent speculation linking the midfielder to the Red Devils, and told reporters, “My plan for next season is that Bastian Schweinsteiger is here,” as quoted by Sky Sports.

“Schweinsteiger is an outstanding legend of Bayern Munich,” he continued.

“He has to decide – not Pep, not [CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. If he wants to stay for three of four more years here, he can do that.”

The Germany international has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola and has struggled to get himself into the Spaniard’s starting line up – which has made his future with the Bavarians uncertain.

Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay £10m for Schweinsteiger to sign on the dotted line at Old Trafford.
