Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi is close to completing a move to the Barclays Premier League according to reports in the Metro, with Manchester United leading the race to sign the Argentine international.

United boss Louis van Gaal has made no secret of his desire to strengthen the playing squad at Old Trafford when the transfer window opens and with the signing of PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay already complete, it would appear that a move for a top class centre half is next on the Dutchman’s list of targets.
Reports in the Mirror Online last week revealed that Borussia Dortmund defender and long time United target Mats Hummels has opted to stay in Germany, therefore ruling out a move to Old Trafford in the process, which has left the Red Devils having to turn their attentions to Otamendi.
The Metro claims that United have agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old and all that is left is to settle on a fee with Valencia, who reportedly value the defender at £36.5million.
