The Portugal international returned to Sporting CP for the 2014-15 campaign – in a season-long loan – which was a hint that his time with the Red Devils was reaching its final stages.

Despite scoring 11 goals for Sporting, the 28-year-old’s performances for the Primeira Liga side offered little much in the way of persuading Louis van Gaal to believe he could have a future at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to the Daily Mail, Fenerbahce expect Nani to arrive on Friday – when he is likely to finalise a £7m move to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The Portuguese winger has scored 25 goals in 147 appearances for the Red Devils, but hasn’t featured for the club since Louis van Gaal’s first Premier League game in charge – a 2-1 defeat to Swansea City.

While showing glimpses of magic during his Manchester United career, including a stunning 25 yard strike against Chelsea in 2011, Nani has arguably failed to escape the shadow of former Old Trafford superstar and international team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
