Manchester United flop signs contract to play for Chelsea

The Gunners have been linked to the 25-year-old by talkSPORT, but there are other reports that they have been put off by the price, such as this from the Daily Mirror. Either way Arsene Wenger may be heartened by the news that the Red Devils aren’t as close as some thought to a deal for the France international.

The Daily Telegraph believes a deal will be completed for the midfielder by the end of the week, but if Koeman’s words are anything to go by then an agreement is some way away between the two clubs.

“We have the situation with Morgan Schneiderlin; we will have to wait to see what will happen,” he said, “until now, we have not had a serious bid for him from Man United.”

“We will wait, but OK – that’s business that normally starts from now. It’s no problem – it’s the first day.”

After making 27 appearances for the Saints last season, and helped them to their miraculous seventh place in the Premier League despite the loss of several major stars the summer before. The Frenchman’s performances may have been enough to make him the central midfielder that Louis van Gaal has pinpointed as vital for the Red Devils to buy according to the Metro.

With Michael Carrick now 33-years-old and there being four fronts for United to compete on next season, reinforcing the role is likely very important to their fortunes. Daley Blind can also play there, but after looking so at home at left-back last time round he may be used there, while Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini are better suited to featuring further forward.
