Premier League team of the weekend: Arsenal quartet in after Man Utd win, plus five-goal Sergio Aguero

Premier League team of the weekend, with Arsenal & Man City dominating.

Here’s our Premier League team of the weekend after some scintilating action between Arsenal and Manchester United among others:

GK: Petr Cech (Arsenal)

Although Arsenal had a fairly comfortable 3-0 lead, Petr Cech needed to be at his best as Manchester United gave it their all to claw a way back in the second half, and the former Chelsea man put in a fine display to keep them out.

DR: Cedric Soares (Southampton)

Excellent for Southampton as they earned a shock win at Stamford Bridge, Cedric Soares kept Eden Hazard quiet on the Chelsea man’s left-hand side, and also got forward to good effect.

DL: Christian Fuchs (Leicester City)

With Leicester continuing their superb start to the season, Christian Fuchs put in a solid display at left-back to help the Foxes earn a hard-fought win at Norwich City.

DC: Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

Often criticised for not being good enough against top class opposition, but Per Mertesacker was a rock at the back for Arsenal, keeping the likes of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial very quiet.

DC: Scott Dann (Crystal Palace)

Another win for Crystal Palace, and Scott Dann put in a fine display at centre-back to help the Eagles to a clean sheet and a good three points against West Brom.

MC: Steven Davis (Southampton)

A vastly underrated Premier League midfielder, Steven Davis capped a terrific all-round performance with a well-taken goal in Southampton’s shock 3-1 win at Chelsea.

MC: Christian Eriksen (Tottenham)

With two goals, Christian Eriksen outlined his importance to Tottenham again, even if Spurs could only manage a 2-2 draw away to Swansea City.

AMR: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

With a goal and two assists, Kevin De Bruyne showed his immense quality as Manchester City brushed Newcastle United aside 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium,

AML: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Scorer of two fantastic goals, Alexis Sanchez continued his amazing revival for Arsenal, putting in a big-game performance as they earned one of their best wins against Manchester United.

AMC: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

Another player silencing his critics, Mesut Ozil turned on the style for Arsenal, setting up the first and scoring the second as he ran the show against a United side that didn’t know what had hit them.

FC: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

With an amazing five goals, Sergio Aguero was different class against Newcastle and continues to show himself to be one of the very best strikers in world football.
