Arsene Wenger identifies former talent as potential January transfer solution

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be considering a January move to bring former youth prospect Havard Nordtveit back to the club.

According to Sky Deutschland [via the Express], the French coach has identified that Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder as a potential solution to the club’s deficiencies in the heart of the park.

Francis Coquelin—the club’s only true high-calibre anchorman—is currently injured, and without him, Arsenal’s midfield options—the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla—look unlikely to assert themselves and establish their authority in the same way as the crocked Frenchman.

With Flamini in the heart of the midfield alongside Aaron Ramsey on Boxing Day, Arsenal were torn apart, falling to a 4-0 defeat against Southampton which really exposes their squad weaknesses.

Reports now indicate that Wenger is keen on bringing Nordtveit—who left the club in 2010 having failed to make a single first-team appearance—back to North London, having identified the talented Norway international as a potential solution.

William Carvalho [Independent] has also been identified as a potential January addition for the Gunners.
