Serie A wideman reveals why he turned down Manchester United transfer in January

Inter Milan full-back Yuto Nagatomo has revealed that he turned down a move to Manchester United during the January transfer window…and explained why.

Speaking to Inter’s official TV channel, the wideman confirmed that he adores playing for the Nerazzurri and isn’t keen to leave the club any time soon.

Similarly, while he particularly enjoyed the influence of some of the side’s departed stars, he has a fine relationship with Roberto Mancini—one of the key reasons why he opted to remain in Lombardy and eschew the chance to hook up with Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

“I like everything about Inter, I want to stay here and renew my contract,” the Japan international began.

“I turned down an offer from Manchester United, as my desire is to stay here. I have an excellent rapport with Roberto Mancini.

“I’m having a great time, though I had the most fun with Wesley Sneijder, Marco Materazzi, Javier Zanetti and Antonio Cassano. Marco taught me Italian, including a few swearwords! Now I do some yoga exercises with Samir Handanovic before a game.”

Nagatomo’s revelation is intriguing, as it suggests that LVG is concerned about the return to fitness of England full-back Luke Shaw.

The full-back was injured during Champions League action for the Red Devils, and having yet to return to fitness, it remains to be seen when he will be back for action, and whether he can return to contention for the Three Lions’ squad for the 2016 European Championship.
