Manchester United appear set to miss out on long-time transfer target Nicolas Gaitan, who is understood to be on the brink of a move to Atletico Madrid.

According to Portuguese source A Bola [as per AS], the elite wideman is on the brink of signing for the Liga BBVA heavyweights in a €25 million deal.

The report notes that the Argentine wideman—who has been named in Gerardo Martino’s squad for the upcoming Copa America—will sign a four-year deal to work under his compatriot Diego Simeone at the Vicente Calderon.

The deal could be confirmed this weekend, according to the Portuguese source, with Gaitan having admitted that the end is near with the Portuguese giants.

The 28-year-old moved to Portugal from Boca Juniors in 2010, and has won three domestic titles with the Lisbon giants.
