Arsenal make enquiry for Barcelona star, Liverpool monitoring situation

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu according to The Sun.

The report states that the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to strengthen in defence following injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.

France international Laurent Koscielny has also been ruled out for the opening weeks on the Premier League due to a lack of fitness.

The Sun goes onto say that Arsene Wenger wants to sign Mathieu as he won’t be very expensive and will be able to bring his vast experience to the team.

Meanwhile, the Express recently reported that Liverpool have also attempted to sign the France international this summer.

The France international has made 75 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions since completing his move from Valencia back in the summer of 2014.

Barcelona are expected to allow Mathieu to leave after signing Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne already over the transfer window.
