Former Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster in hospital coma after being hit with rare malaria strain during Olympic adventure

Former Sky Sports favourite Charlie Webster is in a really bad way.

According to The Sun, the 33-year-old TV presenter was on her way to the Olympic Games in Brazil as a Team GB ambassador when she was struck down by a rare strain of malaria.

The Sun reported late last night that Webster (pictured above on Copacabana beach earlier this month) was in hospital in Rio on life support after going into a coma.

Friends are “fearing the worst”, say The Sun, but the newspaper quote a pal who is keeping positive:

“Charlie is battling for survival at the moment – everyone is distraught.

“But she is so strong and a very fit and healthy person in general so we have to keep positive.

“The doctors have now identified the very rare malaria strain she has contracted so she is receiving the right treatment in Rio, with advice being provided by the London School of Tropical Medicine.”

Everyone at CaughtOffside would like to send their best wishes to Charlie as she fights for survival.
