Man City manager criticised by a former player

Pep Guardiola has ridden into Manchester City on the back of a wave of praise and adoration, with the ease with which his team has picked up his style impressing most observers. His charm and good-sportsmanship after City suffered their first defeat, against Tottenham last week, also saw him widely praised.

In fact to see anyone criticising the former Barcelona boss is rare, but that’s what’s been happening in Germany today. It’s hardly a scathing attack – Bayern Munich centre-back Holger Badstuber has criticised the Spanish boss for not paying much attention to him through several long injury layoffs.

It isn’t even presented as criticism, more as a compliment to new boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is apparently more attentive to Badstuber’s emotional needs.

The German, who played a key role for Guardiola when he was available, is finally at a level of fitness where he is able to play consistently, and his new boss Ancelotti will hope he stays that way.
