Keep or sell? Verdict on every player in the Manchester United squad, key decisions needed regarding Pogba and Lukaku

If there’s one club whose needs a major transfer overhaul in the summer coming up, it’s that of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been in dire form in recent weeks, losing six out of their last eight games in all competitions, with most of their squad showing their actual quality during that time as well.

It’s clear that United need a major shake-up of their squad in the summer, with a number of ins and out required if Solskjaer is to be a success at Old Trafford.

So, we’ve looked through all of United’s current squad and given a verdict on whether they should sell, keep or loan their current crop of stars.

David De Gea – KEEP

Despite a recent dip in form, the Spaniard is still one of the best keepers in the world, and the club would be made to let him go in the summer, no matter the bids that could come in for him.

Antonio Valencia – LEAVING

As per the Metro, Solskjaer has already confirmed that Valencia is to leave the club in the summer, and it’s about time too given his age and the injury troubles he’s faced this season.

Phil Jones – SELL

Jones has shown for quite a while now that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a player that plays for one of the world’s biggest clubs, and quite frankly, we’re amazed he’s lasted at Old Trafford for as long as he has…

Chris Smalling – SELL

Like Jones, Smalling just isn’t up-to-standard for side who’re supposed to be challenging for the Premier League, thus, the Red Devils should just call time on the player’s career in the summer and leave it at that.

Marcos Rojo – SELL

Rojo seems to have found himself surplus to requirements at Old Trafford this year, with the Argentine having made just six appearances in all competitions so far. Given this, it looks like it’d be a wise move for United to get rid of the player come the summer.

Eric Bailly – KEEP

Despite being somewhat out-of-form this year, Bailly has still managed to impress somewhat when given a chance to play in United’s first team, and when you realise the Ivorian is just 25 years old, it might be wise for them to keep the defender for the time being, just in case.

Ashley Young – DEFINITELY SELL

Young has been diabolical for United this term, and the fact he’s still chosen to start by Solskjaer, let alone being given the captain’s armband, is absolutely baffling. The club definitely need to get rid as soon as possible.

United should be getting rid of Young at all costs this summer

Luke Shaw – KEEP

Having made a solid start to the season, Shaw’s form has dwindled somewhat in recent months, however this shouldn’t mean that he should be sold, especially given the fact that he’s just 23 and still basically has his entire career ahead of him.

Matteo Darmian – SELL

Italian ace Darmian has been largely out-of-favour at Old Trafford this term, with the player only managing to amass a total of 450 minutes of play time in all competitions, a total that suggests his time at Old Trafford is pretty much over.

Victor Lindelof – KEEP

Swedish international Lindelof has been a shining light in United’s dimly-lit defence this year, and given how much he’s progressed this season, it’d mad for United to even consider getting rid of him in the summer. Definitely keep.

Sergio Romero – KEEP

Romero has been impressive when given the chance to start over De Gea in the past few years, with the Argentine proving to be a reliable back-up for the Spaniard. United would be doing no harm in keeping him on for at least another season.

Diogo Dalot – DEFINITELY KEEP

Dalot has shown to be very promising for United when given first team opportunities this year, and given the fact the Portuguese star is just 20, it’d be transfer suicide for the club to get rid of the player after just one season at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba – KEEP

Despite showing some poor form under Jose Mourinho, Pogba seems to be flourishing under Solskjaer, and if United are going to keep the Norwegian at the club for the long term, they need to do all they can to ensure Pogba stays for as long as possible.

He’s also one of the best midfielders on the planet, so there’s that as well…

Pogba’s still has a lot more to offer United in the coming seasons

Juan Mata – KEEP

Although Mata is to turn 31 later this month, United should definitely be wanting to keep the player beyond this summer, even if it’s only for one more season, given the fact that he can still cut it against some of the best teams the league has to offer.

Jesse Lingard – KEEP

Lingard has proven to be a useful squad player for United these past couple seasons, and the England international’s link-up play with both Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba is a joy to behold at times. As well as this, Solskjaer shouldn’t have second thoughts about keeping Lingard at the club given the fact that he still has a fair few years of his career ahead of him.

Andreas Pereira – SELL

Pereira hasn’t proven to be much use for United this term, with the midfielder only managing to score once and assist once in 20 appearances in all competitions. Although the player is only 23, he doesn’t seem up to standard for a club like United given his performances this year. Get rid, Ole.

Fred – SELL

Fred has been a huge flop for the Red Devils since his move from Shakhtar Donestk last summer for a fee of around £52M as per Sky Sports. The Brazilian has struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford, a factor we can’t see changing any time soon. Thus, United should just try and recoup what they can for the player whilst they have the chance.

Ander Herrera – LEAVING

According to the Sun, Spaniard Herrera looks set to leave the club on a free in the summer, ending his five-year stint at Old Trafford. The report states the club aren’t willing to bow down to his huge wage demands, and given this, we’re sure a number of fans will be happy to see the back of him.

Nemanja Matic – SELL

Matic has struggled to find the form he displayed at Chelsea since his move from the Blues in the summer of 2017, and given that it’s been almost two years since then, combined with the fact that the Serbian is now in his 30’s, United should definitely be looking to get rid of the player sooner rather than later.

Scott McTominay – LOAN OUT

When given a chance this season, McTominay has shown heaps of ability and potential, however it doesn’t look like the player is ready for a place in United’s starting XI just yet. A loan move away to a fellow Premier League side would be good for the Scot, as it’d allowed him to gain some valuable first team minutes before heading back to United to push for a first team place in the coming years.

Marcus Rashford – KEEP

Rashford is one player United definitely want to keep their hands on this summer despite his recent downturn in form. The England international is one of the Premier League’s most frightening attackers, and his pace and dribbling abilities constantly cause problems for opposition defences. Solskjaer would be mad to get rid of him.

Alexis Sanchez – SELL

One of the biggest flops in Premier League history, United should do all they can to get rid of Sanchez this summer and get his wages off the wage bill. This one’s a no-brainer.

Romelu Lukaku – SELL

Belgian ace Lukaku has shown that he’s just not quite up to United standard during his time with the club, even if he has managed to bag near enough a goal every two games since his arrival. Lukaku’s poor dribbling ability and lack of consistent finishing means the club should be looking to sell the forward this summer and bring in a replacement ASAP.

United should cash in on Lukaku before it’s too late

Anthony Martial – KEEP

Being just 23, Martial still has most of his career ahead of him, and if he can live up to his potential, United would have a seriously good player on their hands in the future. Thus, United could regret getting rid of the Frenchman this summer, even if his current form suggests they should.
