Chelsea star could be allowed free transfer this summer as he eyes return to former club

Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could reportedly be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer just a year after joining.

The Gabon international has majorly flopped at Stamford Bridge and is now likely to see his stay in west London cut short, with a move back to former club Barcelona seemingly on his agenda, according to the Telegraph.

Aubameyang was previously a star player at Arsenal and also had a decent spell at Barca last season before being brought in by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

With Tuchel’s sacking shortly after Aubameyang’s arrival, it was always likely to be a challenge for the former Gunners forward to make the desired impact at Chelsea.

It seems Aubameyang’s contract could end early this summer, and it will be interesting to see if Barcelona do decide to re-sign him.

The 33-year-old may no longer be at the peak of his powers, but he could still have a role to play as a squad player at the Nou Camp, where he looked very much at home in the second half of last season, scoring 11 goals in 17 La Liga games.
