Journalist shares ‘personal information’, Man Utd could replace ETH with 57-year-old

Manchester United have had a difficult season in the Premier League so far and they are seventh in the league table.

The Red Devils were expected to compete for the league title this season but their performances have been quite mediocre. Manager Erik ten Hag is naturally under a lot of pressure and there have been speculations surrounding his long-term future at Old Trafford.

There have been rumours that Manchester United could look to replace him if the results do not improve and names like Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi and Julen Lopetegui have been tipped to replace him.

Journalist Dean Jones has now revealed on Give Me Sport that Lopetegui and De Zerbi are strong contenders to replace the Dutch manager if he is sacked in the near future.

“My personal information has been that Lopetegui and maybe even Roberto De Zerbi would be stronger contenders than Potter and I have to admit I have extreme reservations about Potter being able to handle life at Old Trafford based on what we saw from him at Chelsea.”

Ten Hag did an exemplary job with Manchester United last season and he was hailed as the right appointment for the Red Devils. Things have clearly not gone according to plan this season but the Dutchman remains a quality manager and Manchester United should be more patient with him.

Their poor performances are not just down to the manager’s shortcomings the players have underperformed as well and they will have to share responsibility for the decline this season.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to remain patient with Ten Hag and allow him the time to get things back on track.

Julen Lopetegui to Manchester United?

Lopetegui could be an interesting addition for Manchester United. The 57-year-old is certainly an experienced manager who has worked at clubs like Porto, Real Madrid and Sevilla. He managed the Spanish national team as well.

The 57-year-old won the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla back in 2019-20. There is no doubt that he has the pedigree to manage a cup like Manchester United and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
