Arsenal eyeing up a move for striker who has scored 26 goals in 28 games this season

Viktor Gyokeres, who is having an incredible season with Sporting CP in Portugal, is reportedly a target for Arsenal.

The Gunners’ closest links are with Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Ivan Toney of Brentford, but considering their relative costs, they may get a better deal somewhere else.

According to a report in the Mirror, Mikel Areta’s team wants to sign the Sweden international.

Only in July, following the Portuguese giants’ £20 million agreement with Coventry, did the 25-year-old arrive at Sporting CP.

In 50 games during the previous season, the Stockholm-born striker scored 22 goals and bagged 12 assists for Coventry.

Sporting CP promptly added a €100 million (£85 million) release clause to the Swede’s contract, and even that seems like a great deal as Arsenal scouts observe him.

Gyokeres has amazingly contributed 10 assists and 26 goals in just 28 matches for Sporting CP.

The 25-year-old attacker adds physicality, inventiveness, and goal threat to the team. He may be the finest forward in Europe outside of the major leagues, despite concerns about the league he is presently playing in given that he is unproven in the top five leagues.

Gyokeres might be a possibility to provide an outlet upfront given his ability to carry the ball and score at a clinical rate. He would fancy playing with creators like Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.

Signing the Sporting CP striker would be easier for Arsenal and they would face less competition for him as compared to their other transfer targets; Toney and Osimhen.

Arsenal’s constant links with strikers in the market is bad news for Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.
