‘Very poor’ – Ian Wright blasts £80m Newcastle man after Chelsea loss

On Monday night, Newcastle United struggled mightily throughout the pitch against Chelsea, with Bruno Guimaraes also struggling to make a difference.

Ian Wright, who expressed his displeasure with the 26-year-old’s performance at Stamford Bridge, holds that opinion.

Bruno Guimaraes’ performance was well below his typical level, which was a perfect way to sum up the entire Toon performance.

When Eddie Howe defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 last week by outwitting Gary O’Neil, it was an entirely different story.

Ian Wright was not impressed with Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle gave Chelsea the advantage on Monday. Mauricio Pochettino’s team has frequently struggled this season against a low block. But the Magpies did not really try to absorb the pressure and strike Chelsea on the counterattack.

Ian Wright believes Bruno was responsible for one of the many subpar performances that were seen in a black and white shirt.

Wright discussed his opinion on Bruno’s performance when he featured on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football broadcast.

“I thought Guimaraes was very poor,” he said.

“Couldn’t get himself away from the fact Conor Gallagher was in an around him, not enough movement from him.

“Almiron had to get taken off, it was unfortunate for Gordon, but in the main – Livramento tried – but other than that a very poor performance.”

Newcastle players struggled against Chelsea

It’s obvious that wasn’t Bruno’s best night when you see him play. Although his assist for Alexander Isak was his best moment, he was nowhere near his usual best.

Bruno’s performance was only partially redeeming because he managed to escape receiving a yellow card once again. He is now displaying great discipline and is just one booking away from a two-game ban.

While the performance was lackluster, there were many other Newcastle players who had far more difficulty—like Sven Botman, Sean Longstaff, and Martin Dubravka, to name a few.
