Exclusive: “Crazy fee” needed for Barcelona to sign Liverpool star as expert responds to transfer rumours

A crazy fee would be required for Barcelona to seal the transfer of Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, according to Fabrizio Romano, who has cast his doubts over the potential deal.

Diaz has shone since joining Liverpool from Porto a few years ago, and it makes sense that there could be other elite clubs in Europe keen to snap up the Colombia international.

However, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that he couldn’t see this potentially pricey deal being likely for Barca, who have had well documented financial problems in recent years.

We don’t tend to see the Catalan giants splashing the cash in the way they used to, so it’s fair to say they probably don’t have the kind of money that would be required to convince LFC to part ways with a world class talent like Diaz.

Diaz transfer: Romano reassures Liverpool fans over Barcelona links

Despite some talk of Diaz’s agent holding talks with Barcelona, Romano has made it clear he doesn’t think there’s anything going on with this story.

The transfer news expert said: “Staying with Liverpool for a moment, I want to reassure fans that I’m not hearing anything about Luis Diaz and Barcelona, despite some stories about his agent meeting with Barca.”

He added: “Diaz’s full focus is on Liverpool and also I don’t think it’s possible for Barcelona to go and pay the kind of crazy fee that would be required for Diaz.”

Liverpool fans will surely be pleased to hear this news, as they face enough upheaval as it is this summer with the departure of long-serving and legendary manager Jurgen Klopp.

Losing an important player like Diaz would be far from ideal for the club, who also had to rebuild their entire midfield last summer with four new signings coming in as five senior players left.
