Postecoglou urged to drop 24-year-old in favour of star with ‘loads of talent’

Tottenham Hotspur will take on Arsenal in the North London Derby later today and manager Ange Postecoglou has been urged to hand Brennan Johnson a start against the Gunners.

The 22-year-old winger has done quite well with his cameos this season and he could add some much-needed pace and penetration from the flanks.

Former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara believes that 24-year-old Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski has had a mediocre campaign so far and Johnson deserves to start ahead of him.

Tottenham will need to be at their best in the final third in order to break down a mean Arsenal defence. The Gunners have been exceptional at the back this season and they will look to nullify the attacking threat from Tottenham.

Johnson would certainly add pace, flair and goals to the side.

“I am not sure what he [Postecoglou] is going to do,” O’Hara said on talkSPORT (27/04 7:22 pm). “I have to trust Ange in what he does.

“In terms of fitness as well, I don’t know how Richarlison is. Richarlison went through a decent run of form, actually scored some goals. I would probably give him a game.

“Brennan Johnson, pace on the right. I like Brennan Johnson off the bench, but Kulusevski has been poor this season. He has not been great the last few months. I don’t think he has had a great season.

“Werner – he lets you down, he doesn’t score enough goals. I would play Son, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson. I would. Brennan Johnson frustrates the life out of me, but he has got loads of talent.”

O’Hara believes that Tottenham should look to start Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson in their front three.

Tottenham are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they cannot afford to drop points at this stage of the season. They are already failing behind Aston Villa, who are in fourth place.

This will be a must win contest for Tottenham, and it remains to be seen whether they can grind out a priceless win against their bitter rivals at home. They will also look to dent Arsenal’s hopes of winning the league this season and pile some misery on them.
