Sky Sports presenter expects Unai Emery to complete top class £43m signing this summer

Aston Villa are on the verge of a historic season, and the Midlands are favourites to play in the Champions League next season.

Manager Unai Emery has completely turned around the fortunes of the club and made them instantly better after his arrival.

Having failed at Arsenal in is previous stint in the Premier League, Emery had a point to prove in England and he has more than done that.

After a successful season at Villa Park, the Spaniard is now looking ahead to the summer transfer window having identified key additions for his team.

Emery wants his team to reportedly sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams to bolster his attack.

At just 21 years old, Williams has shown to be one of the most talented wingers in La Liga this season, and he would provide Villa’s attacking line much-needed pace and skills.

Now, Sky Sports presenter Dan Bardell has confirmed that the Premier League club could reignite their interest in the Spaniard and make a move for his services.

In an exclusive interview with Villa News, Bardell stated:

“There’s obviously something in it because Villa wanted him last season and he was Emery’s first choice as a forward player. Villa needs to sign someone who’s capable of playing as a striker who is also multifunctional.

“I believe that Williams has the attributes to play as a striker at times to give Villa an alternative to Watkins so he doesn’t run himself into the ground.

Nico Williams has been linked with a move to Aston Villa.

“I do think a forward player of that type will be brought in, in the summer. The problem is he hasn’t been keen on the move before.

“The Champions League might help but it’s so hard to get Basque players from Bilbao as the players are so committed to that club.

“It’s potentially a difficult one to get over the line but that £43m release clause feels really low so he would be a smart signing.”

Aston Villa can make a statement by signing him

Williams, who is only 21 years old, has already made an impact for Athletic Club, showing off his ability with 20 goal involvements in 32 games during the previous campaign.

Top Premier League and European teams are interested in signing him because of his quick development in La Liga; they consider him as a top future winger.

Since his brother, Iñaki Williams, also plays for the Basque team, Williams has strong cultural links to Athletic Club.

If Villa can manage to sign him, it would make a statement and further cement their position as a top-four team in the Premier League.
