New season plans in motion already at Barcelona as one player departure revealed

It appears to be all systems go already at Barcelona with the club having prioritised the departure of one first-team ace.

With Xavi Hernandez having performed a remarkable u-turn at the club, the powers that be can now begin to get things rolling ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The club are still wading through treacle in many respects off the pitch because of the huge debt that Josep Maria Bartomeu’s presidency saddled the current incumbents with.

Oriol Romeu will leave Barcelona

It’s a wonder that Joan Laporta and his staff have got the club to where it is at present, given how far down the abyss they could’ve fallen thanks to Bartomeu’s largesse.

Though Barca still aren’t able to shop or compete at the top table, they are managing to navigate through some incredibly choppy waters.

Oriol Romeu is set to leave Barcelona

If they’re able to ride out things over the next 12-18 months, once the New Camp Nou is fully open for business, there should be a sea change in what can be achieved on and off the pitch.

One player that won’t get the chance to perform at the stadium unless it’s in opposition will be Oriol Romeu.

According to Fichajes he’ll leave at the end of the season, with Sport suggesting that a return to Girona, who Barcelona play this weekend, could be on the cards.

Frankly, he’ll not be missed by the club after a series of woeful performances.

Brought in ostensibly to replace Sergio Busquets and with a background at La Masia, there’s a clear school of thought that Romeu would slot straight into the starting XI with minimal fuss.

Though he began well, it was quickly obvious that he wasn’t going to be the right fit and a lack of playing time over the past few months was only ever going to be the outcome.
