Eddie Howe thinks injured Newcastle defender’s season is over

Newcastle United will probably have to finish their campaign without the help of Fabian Schar.

Eddie Howe has suggested the experienced Switzerland international will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury.

With just four games left to play, the Magpies, who sit seventh, must take maximum points if they’re to stand any chance of securing some sort of European football next season.

However, with Schar, 32, now a major doubt, the Geordies must find a way to manage without one of the side’s most reliable and consistent performers.

“Fabian Schar will miss a period of time with a hamstring problem,” Howe told reporters ahead of tomorrow’s game against Burnley, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“He won’t be available tomorrow and I doubt we’ll see him again this season.”

Schar’s suspected absence will be a huge blow to Newcastle, who have seen the 32-year-old score four domestic goals while featuring in all of their Premier League games this season.

The Magpies’ last three games after Saturday’s away tie against Burnley are scheduled to be against Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United before a final-day showdown away to Brentford.
