Old Trafford club set to make approach for Belgian midfielder.

Check in to Sunderland vs Manchester United

Manchester United sent scouts to watch Everton’s game with Manchester City on Saturday.

But it was not to monitor the performance of their title rivals.

Sir Alex Ferguson sent his side to Goodison Park to monitor the progress of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The Old Trafford side are reportedly preparing a summer bid for the beanpole player and are keen to run the rule over his performances between now and the end of the season.

Fellaini has won a number of plaudits in recent seasons after a string of impressive performances in the Everton midfield.

But the ambitious player looks certain to leave the club this summer after publically declaring his desire to move to a top European club.

The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are all thought to be monitoring the player’s situation. But United look ready to steal a march on their rivals by making an early move for the player.

David Moyes is thought to be reluctant to lose the player, but with his own future at the club uncertain, is struggling to persuade Fellaini of the benefits of remaining at Goodison Park.

The Scottish manager’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he could follow Fellaini to Old Trafford if rumours are to be believed that he is being lined up as a potential replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson.
