West Bromwich Albion are pondering making a £1 million move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Diego Lugano this summer, according to reports in the Express & Star.

The rugged Uruguay international has been playing for the Ligue 1 champions for the past two seasons now, having signed for the French giants from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in August 2011 for just 3m euros.

However, the 32-year-old has generally found it hard to settle in the French capital, featuring in only 12 league matches for the big-spending Parisians, before last season being sent out on loan to Liga outfit Malaga last season.

But even the switch to Spain did not see Lugano gain much more game time, with the central defender playing in 10 league contests for the Spaniards, before being shipped back to the Parc des Princes at the end of the previous campaign.

And with there being so much fierce competition for places at the back at PSG now,  it appears as though Lugano’s days in Paris are numbered, which is why the Baggies are hopeful of being able to bring the centre back to the Hawthorns this summer in order to provide some much-needed competition for first-choice defensive pairing Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley.
