Man United are set to launch a stunning move to sign Borussia Dortmund duo Ilkay Gundogan and Marco Reus as David Moyes looks to re-shuffle his midfield.

CaughtOffside understands that the Old Trafford club’s board are ready to fully back Moyes in the transfer market and the area of most concern is the club’s midfield with the Man United manager keen to bring in a solid box to box performer as well as an attacking option that can help shoulder the goal-scoring burden that is currently held solely by the club’s strike-force.

23 year old German international Gundogan has been in ongoing contract talks with Borussia Dortmund for some months now and with his current deal set to close in the summer of 2015 the Westfalenstadion side are understandably nervous about the situation, not least as they have seen star striker Robert Lewandowski run down his deal in order to secure a free transfer move to domestic rivals Bayern Munich.

Moyes believes Gundogan will offer a fresh dimension to his midfield and that the former Nurnberg man can act as a long term replacement for England man Michael Carrick and provide far more quality than the likes of Anderson and under-fire battler Tom Cleverley.

Gundogan may well be interested in a possible move to Man United given the poor form his Dortmund side have shown this term, form that has not only seen them crash out of the Bundesliga title race, falling some 12 points off top of the table Bayern Munich, but also fell behind both Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach as well as only just scraping through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Moyes will look to bring in 24 year old attacker Marco Reus to serve as an ideal bridge between midfield and attack and will also hope that the recent drop in form at Borussia Dortmund could leave the German international vulnerable to an approach from Man United.

Reus has proven a big hit since moving to Dortmund from Monchengladbach just over 18 months ago, scoring 30 goals and providing 17 assists in 74 appearances for the Die Borussen and could actually be seen as a more viable option for this advanced midfield role than former Borussia man Shinji Kagawa, who’s days at Man United seem numbered.

Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has seen a succession of stars leave his squad in recent seasons, the likes of Nuri Sahin (who has since returned), Shinji Kagawa and Mario Gotze have all left in pursuit of ‘dream’ moves elsewhere, with Lewandowski to follow suit in the summer, and therefore there is a very real concern that the nucleus of his squad is being picked off by prospective buyers and a £60m bid for Gundogan and Reus may well lead to more uncertainty at the club.
