The Old Trafford boss has struggled in his debut season in charge of Man United and if the Scot fails to secure a Champions League berth then by all accounts the Premier League side have set their sights on the 62 year old, who has previously managed Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Louis van Gaal has made it abundantly clear he wants to return to club management, stating recently;

“I am a winner and craving a trophy. This is why I am sick of being a national coach. I only see the players eight times a year. I am not enjoying the job of national coach at all.

“After the World Cup I want to coach a big club again and win trophies. Otherwise I will retire.”

Prior to taking over as Holland national team boss van Gaal had six domestic titles in three countries as well as a Champions League triumph with Ajax back in 1995.

David Moyes managed to bring an end to a poor run of form with a comfortable win against Crystal Palace but Man United still sit down in sixth place in the table, some 11 points off fourth placed Liverpool.
